    The number of female veterans have been increasing in my Post and we try to get together for lunch when we can. The last lunch we had two Army nurses, one Navy nurse, one Navy Geophysicist who went to Annapolis, and me the Army admin who identifies as a Radar O’Reilly. Veterans speak a unique language, but female veterans even more so. We also have Zoom calls and have a group text.

      I'm unaware of their version, as it is fiction. Creepy Pasta may have taken the original accounts and added some more fantasy, but this account was first recorded in a December 2009 article by T. Coghlan for United Kingdom's newspaper, The Times, entitled "Eerie Outpost Unnerves US Marines with Strange Lights and Whispers in the Night". Another legitimate source is a 2020 New York Times article "An Ancient Hill and Forgotten Dead: Afghanistan's Haunted Outpost" by T. Gibbons-Neff and T. Shah. I take my research seriously! I hope you'll check out the book and consider all the evidence.

    So grateful to be a part of this great iniative to learn more and connect people to prevent veteran suicide. This episode is truly a deep dive into what Dr. Frueh has learned and discovered from year's of research to explain some of what our Special Operations troops have been experiencing over +20 years of sustained combat operations.

    When I was 11, my across the street neighbor died in Vietnam. Donald Bennett was a 19 year old Marine. Years later I wrote a memory of him on the Virtual Wall. Then some time later I received a call from a member of a group called Canamission that worked to return dog tags found in Vietnam to the family. They were having difficulty finding Donald’s family. So my Mom started talking to the neighbors. I also contacted the Commanders of the American Legion and VFW in my home town. The Commander of the VFW was a Marine and he was able to locate his mother and brother. A State Police trooper from Virginia was also involved. They raised the money to fly his mother in for their Veterans Day luncheon and they asked me to present Donald’s dog tag to his mother. The room was packed with folks from the neighborhood and there wasn’t a dry eye. They recorded the presentation and there was newspaper coverage which I would be glad to share. I’m an Army veteran and 29 year member of the American Legion PA Post 491 in Kennett Square, PA.

    Our nation needs a purpose to follow. It must be a noble purpose in keeping with our constitution. We had a noble purpose for fighting WWII. This brave woman would not be able to explain the noble purpose behind our fighting in Vietnam. Nor in Afghanistan. Young Americans in the 60s and 70s tried to tell us but our government wouldn't listen. If they didn't protest we would probably still be fighting in Vietnam today. The responsibility of every soldier to uphold what is morally right and constitutional rises above any command he is given.

      I have been discussing the plight of our Afghan friends with my senators and congressman for the past 2 congressional sessions. The number one thing I state right off the bat is that they will be murdered if sent back. The stupidity of putting out a documentary on these individuals is beyond comprehension. I am so sad over this. I wonder if the people that gave it a go can actually sleep at night .

    I got out in Sept 68. My reception at Logan Airport Boston stays with me to this day. Last year here in Canada on Nov 11th, which I always attend, I had a young Mother "thank me for my service (I had on a US ARMY 65-68 ball cap) .... I wanted to puke on my shoes.

    • @markbrown4211
      @markbrown4211 5 днів тому

      It sounds like you're still bitter about the raw reception you got, returning from Nam. I don't blame you. I take it you wanted to puke because it took over fifty years for someone to thank you for your service, and that from a citizen of the country that protected the cowards who weren't willing to do their patriotic duty. If I have that right, I can only say that that anger you're still carrying around inside is hurting you, and you should get counseling (which should be free to you, from the VA), if for no other reason than to no longer let it mess up your life or continue to cause your loved ones concern.

    As a younger person I can say in person and online social gatherings we're beneficial. A lot of kids still do both. Even if y'all dont see it. The issue is as we become adults we loose a lot of that due to time constraints and responsibilities. Online socializing is still beneficial and still allows ppl to talk and interact all over the world. I think the biggest issue is as adults we lost our 3rd place to socialize outside home and work. Heck there's times I can't go to my legion post for weeks to a month because of everything I need to do and thats my 3rd place.

    Echo your angst re: lack of in-person communication among younger generations. Retired vet here encourages in-person/social connections now as when you get to 6th/7th/8th decades in life you need active brain stimulation/conversations which force your brain to stay active/engaged. Social media stunts human interaction and we need each other to stay mentally engaged and healthy. Happy to hear your conversation is addressing in-person get-togethers and regular connection with peers, and peers as parents with their children. Keep up the good work!

    Great show. In Ohio we have H.O.O.V.E.S. and Save A Warrior that has seriously cganged the lives of those with PTSD. They are puhsically engaging which fills the void from standard drug treatment. The VA needs to refer their patients to these groups. Yhe numbers speak for themselves.
